Delnet Workshop

 

[26th Feb. 2011, Jaipur] Today, IILM Academy of Higher Learning, Jaipur in association with Developing Library Network, Delhi and Jaipur Library and Information Society (JALIS)   organized one day workshop on topic “DELNET Resources, Services and Facilities” 100 Librarians from across the nation participated. The program began with lightening of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana by PGDM students.

 

On this occasion Dr. Ashok Bapna, Director, IILM Academy, Jaipur in his welcome address said that globalization has brought many changes and interdependence of the nations has become essential. He said DELNET is building networks across the nations. Top universities libraries across the globe have best and modernised information system and libraries. But, libraries in India have not been utilized to the full extent as users are not inclined to visit libraries. To rectify this librarian has to become the change agent in order to take world in right direction. He further said JALIS is doing commendable job and bringing information resources through DELNET at the doorstep of the various libraries across the country.

 


 

Dr. H.K. Kaul, Chairman, DELNET, said that the four walls of the library have become redundant in today’s time. But over the years there has been tremendous change in the usage of libraries resources globally. He said librarians have responsibility towards the society and country as a whole in providing relevant information. Librarians have to make sure that they provide qualitative information as compared to the information available on the internet. DELNET is the way through which they can achieve this target and provide valuable information and data to the end users.

 

Dr. Ved Prakash, Registrar, IILM Academy, Jaipur said that in today's world use of technology is must as it is technology which has helped in expression of the knowledge. Through these kind of workshops participants will be going to learn practical aspects of the DELNET.

 

Dr. P.K. Gupta, Patron JALIS, said that the time of ownership has gone and now it is the time to have access. DELNET provides the access to information and also provide valuable data in form of articles, books, publications, journals etc. It helps you have access to software as well as the hardware.

 

Dr. Sangeeta Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET, said that this workshop is wonderful opportunity to interact in physical space. She said DELNET has many members across the globe in countries like, Oman, Nepal, Sri Lanka etc. She said that there is no loser in the networking environment and it is the win-win situation for all. She said DELNET organises orientation programmes at various levels for librarians.

 

Dr. Prabha Sharma, President (JALIS) said that it is ardent need for the colleges and universities across the countries to modernise their libraries and train every body in usage of modern technologies. She said DELNET has emerged as major networking software in Asia and is one of the major platform in providing practical training to the librarians.

 

The programme ended with vote of thanks by DR. Anita Gangrade, Librarian, IILM Academy, Jaipur.

 

In the workshop practical training will be imparted by the DELNET professionals on services, facilities and resources associated with usage of DELNET. On this occasion Dr. Sangeeta Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET will give practical training with regards to usage of computer and DELNET in library with help of instant user ID and passwords, which will be provided to the participants on the spot. Dr. Anita Gangrenada, coordinator, DELNET workshop said that DR. Ashok Bapna, Director, IILM Academy, Jaipur. and Dr. H.K. Kaul will be the chief guests of the program.
